Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is the formal diagnosis for children that demonstrate challenges with their gross and fine motor skills and may also include speech disorders. In previous years they may have been referred to as a "clumsy child" but as more doctors become aware of the diagnosis of DCD, you may see more students in your PE class that have this diagnosis. CanChild is an organization in Ontario that focuses on childhood disability and they are an excellent resource for information on numerous conditions, including DCD. They offer a free workshop that is very comprehensive and provides good information for both parents and teachers. I have included the link to the workshop on the PE Teachers tab on this website. If you don't have time for a workshop this flyer developed by CanChild is a quick read and a good resource for PE teachers.
